What I've learnt about God:
Phew, there's a lot in this passage to cover. God gives us wisdom (all these things Jesus tells us), God transforms our situation (weeping to laughter, hungry to satisfied etc.), God commands us to go above and beyond (love enemies, give and don't expect back) but God has done this first (God is merciful) and God will repay us even more (it will be running over), God is our foundation (we should be built on Him and our actions should show that).
What I've learnt about me:
I find it hard to go above and beyond. Yes I would class myself as a nice person, but in that worldly sense, where you do nice things for others and sometimes it's a bit of an inconvenience but not hugely so it's okay. But I find it hard to love enemies, to lend money, to give money to beggars, to pray for those who abuse me. It's definitely something I need to work on massively. When you take that section with the section about the tree and it's fruit you see even more why it's important because in going above and beyond we are showing that we are part of God's family. People will ask questions as to why we are doing these things and it's a great way to get talking about God. The command given to love our enemies isn't simply just a nice thing to do, it's an evangelical tool as well.
