What I've learnt about God:
In offering us righteousness through Jesus's death He is both a fair judge, as punishment has been given from sins, but also the one who is able to make us justified. He loves us hugely to do this and it is a great gift.
What I've learnt about me:
Works do not equal justification but they are a result of faith. Doing good deeds won't get you into heaven, but because of what God has done for you, you should want to do good deeds too.

If I could shove the whole passage here I would
Romans 3:23-25 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins."
