What I've learnt about God:
The law gives us knowledge of sin and obviously we should try to follow it, but it can never be followed fully, which is why Jesus' death on the cross is so amazing and wonderful a sacrifice.
What I've learnt about me:
We are not righteous. It's very easy to spend life ignoring specific sins of yours but actually we need to look at them and confront them and accept our failings.
