What I've learnt about God:
He can save us from situations where there seems to be no way out. He can do what isn't humanly possible.
What I've learnt about me:
I need to pray more for persecuted Christians, it's easy to get caught up in the bubble of Western Christianity where teasing and mocking is about as bad persecution as we get. I often forget about those literally in chains and being put to death for God.
